Frontier are a low-cost airline. This means that they try to keep prices for their basic fares as low as possible.
In order to make up for the loss of profits, they charge fees for extra services such as bringing a full-size carry-on or checked luggage.
When you fly with Frontier the only luggage you can bring for free is the personal item. This is an 8 x 14 x 18 inches (depth x width x height) bag that must fit under the seat in front of you.
The Frontier personal item bag might not be as small as you think. A bag that size can hold 33 liters whereas a full-size carry-on usually only holds around 40 liters.
If the free personal item bag doesn’t offer you enough packing space then you’re going to encounter baggage fees either for a larger carry-on bag or for a checked bag.

Frontier Prices For Carry On Bags
The cheapest price for a carry-on bag will be if you add it during the initial booking of your flight.
Paid carry-on bags can be a maximum size of 24 x 16 x 10 inches and could hold 57 liters. That’s larger than the 22 x 14 x 9 carry-on size limit that is common with many airlines in the United States. However, you probably don’t own a carry-on suitcase this large and it would make little sense to buy one unless you fly with Southwest and Frontier a lot.
Frontier paid carry-on bags also have a weight limit of 35 pounds which is unusual for an American airline.
In our example, a carry-on bag costs $40 if added during booking on the website or mobile app, it cost $42 if added after booking the flight.
It cost $44 if you wait until check-in to add it.
If you waited until you reached the airport ticket counter or kiosk it cost $55 and it also costs $55 if you add it at any time by calling customer service. It costs more to speak to a human than to do it online.
Lastly, if you get caught at the gate with a personal item bag that is over the size limit then they’ll make you pay for a carry-on and at that stage it costs $60.
If you know you will need a full-size carry-on bag then it’s best to add it as early as possible during the booking process.
Frontier Prices For Checked Baggage
In our example the baggage fees for the 1st checked bag had a similar structure to the carry-on baggage.
The checked bag fee started at $38 and went up to $60 at the gate.
A checked bag on Frontier can be 62 linear inches and weigh 50 pounds.
Make sure you weigh your luggage before going to the airport because the overweight fee is $75. There is another $75 fee is your bag is oversize. An overweight and oversized checked suitcase would cost you $150 in baggage fees each way.
Any bag over 100 pounds or 110 linear inches will not be accepted.
The Bottom Line
Frontier prices for carry-on bags range from $30 – $60 depending on where you are flying and when you book.
Your 1st checked luggage is similarly priced but bringing a 2nd or 3rd checked bag would cost more.
