Can You Bring Tweezers On A Plane?

Last Updated on April 15, 2020

You might be aware that there are rules about taking sharp objects like scissors on to airplanes.

Tweezers aren’t that sharp but I suppose you could do some damage if you poked someone in the eye with them!

So what’s the deal with taking tweezers why you fly? Can you take tweezers on an airplane? Are there any rules you need to be aware of.

This post has got you covered!

TSA Tweezers Rules

When it comes to tweezers the TSA is pretty clear about the rules:

Can You Bring Tweezers In Your Carry On Luggage?

Yes, you can bring tweezers in your hand luggage. They can be packed inside your carry on or even your personal item such as a purse or handbag.

Here is the @AskTSA service on Twitter confirming a specific example.

So you can see that you can take even extra long medical tweezers on to planes with you in the cabin.

You don’t need to do anything special with tweezers for hand luggage like putting them in a plastic bag or anything like that.

Can You Take Tweezers In Checked Bags?

Yeah. Surprisingly, there are actually more rules about tweezers in checked luggage. Your tweezers should be sheathed or securely wrapped if they are in your hold luggage.

Here was Kayla getting the rules about taking eyebrow tweezers in checked bags:

They will also probably be fine packing inside a toiletries bag. You are just not supposed to have them thrown in freely in your bag since a baggage handler might injure themselves while they are rummaging through your clothes during a bag search.

Keep in mind that the final decision always lies with the TSA officer at the security checkpoint or the baggage handler that searches your bag.

The rules are just guidelines and any TSA employee can make a call and decide your tweezers are not getting through airport security.

I have never heard of that happening with tweezers though! Just letting you know that it’s a possibility if you had especially sharp or dangerous tweezers for some reason.

The Bottom Line

You can bring tweezers on a plane. Even long tweezers are fine. The TSA doesn’t view tweezers as a dangerous item so you can pack them in carry on or checked bags.

Yes, it’s true that sharp objects or self-defense weapons can be banned from carry on baggage.

But the TSA is not expecting any ninjas that can do serious damage using only tweezers.

So feel free to pack your tweezers for your next vacation! Have a great trip!
