Can You Bring A Juul On A Plane? (Juul Pods, Portable Charging Case)

Last Updated on January 17, 2021

You don’t need to sneak a Juul on a plane when you travel. You are allowed to take it!

There are a few rules and restrictions that apply when flying with Juuls. The Juul Pods and the Juul pen are treated differently.

This post takes about 2 minutes to read and by the end you’ll know exactly what to do with your Juul when you fly.

Let’s look at what the TSA say…

Juul TSA Rules

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) are the people who run airport security. It’s their job to screen luggage and decide what can or can’t be taken on a plane.

They don’t specifically mention the Juul vape pen on their website but they do have general guidelines about vaping devices, e-cigarettes, vape juice, e-liquids, and lithium batteries.

Can you take a Juul on a plane?

The relevant first rule is that electronic cigarettes and vape pens are not allowed in checked bags.

So, you can bring a Juul on a plane in carry-on luggage but you can’t pack a Juul in checked luggage.

Keep in mind that if you pack your Juul in a carry-on bag sometimes you can be asked to check your bag at the boarding gate if there is not enough room in the overhead bins.

If this happens you must remove your Juul from your suitcase and carry it with you into the cabin. Juul devices should never go in the airplane hold.

The reason is that there is a small risk that a Juul could malfunction and catch fire. This could be catastrophic if a fire starts in the luggage compartment of the plane since nobody will be around to put the fire out.

There is another Juul related rule you must follow:

Can you bring Juul Pods on a plane?

Any liquids brought in on a plane in carry-on bags must be in containers smaller than 3.4 oz (100 ml).

Juul pods contain vape juice but there is only 0.7 ml of vape juice in a single Juul pod. This means that the Juul Pod is small enough but you should pack all your Juul pods in your plastic quart-size liquids bag.

This is the same bag where you put your shampoo, shower gel, sun lotion, toothpaste etc.

You need to remove the Juul Pod from your Juul. Discard any half-empty Juul Pods because there is a chance that air pressure changes will cause them to leak. Pack unused Juul Pods in your quart-size toiletries bag.

You are allowed to pack as many Juul Pods as you can fit in your quart bag.

Furthermore, if you are flying with a checked bag your Juul Pods can go in checked luggage. The Juul pen itself must go in carry-on luggage but Juul Pods can be packed in checked baggage.

Can you bring a Juul Portable Charger on a plane?

A third rule to be aware of is about power banks and battery chargers.

Loose spare lithium batteries and power banks are not permitted in checked bags. So if you own a Juul Portable charger this should not be packed in checked luggage.

You don’t need to worry about the size of the lithium battery in either a Juul or a Juul portable charger. A Juul has a battery capacity of under 1 watt hours and a Juul portable charger has a capacity of under 3 watt hours.

Word On The Twittersphere

Allen asked the TSA what would happen if they forgot and put their Juul in checked luggage:

The bad news is that your Juul would most likely be found by a scanner and destroyed if you pack it in a checked suitcase.

Zack lost a Juul while flying with American Airlines. Not sure how that happened because there is no reason for his Juul to leave his bag during the flight!

Lauren wasn’t happy someone was vaping next to her during her entire flight on Delta:

Please be respectful to other passengers and don’t use your Juul on the plane!

JetBlue were laying down the law and reminding people they can be fined for using a Juul in the lavatory.

Jess was triggered and thought someone at Frontier has stolen her Juul from her suitcase but it’s probably more likely that it was confiscated for safety reasons.

And Dion was shocked when someone started used their Juul right after landing on his flight with United Airlines:

The Verdict

The simple advice is to bring your Juul in you carry on. Discard any opened Juul Pods and make sure to keep new Juul Pods in your quart-size toiletries bag.

If you are worried about nicotine withdrawal then consider nicotine patches.

Don’t try to smoke that Juul in the airplane toilet!
